Klima und Landschaft

In Argentinien findet man von kalten Klimazonen in den Anden und im Süden über gemäßigtes Klima bis hin zu subtropischem und tropischem Klima im Nordosten fast alle Klimazonen in einem Land vereint. Flora und Fauna variieren dementsprechend stark. Die Anden verlaufen vom Südatlantik bis zur bolivianischen Grenze im Norden durch ganz Argentinien und bilden die längste kontinentale Gebirgskette der Erde. Im Norden besteht Argentinien vor allem aus subtropischem Flachland, der Westen besteht aus heißer Trockensavanne, Argentinische Chaco genannt. Ganz im Süden befindet sich Feuerland, das südlichste dauerhaft besiedelte Gebiet der Welt; hier trifft man auf beeindruckende Gletscher- und Eislandschaften. Nördlich von Feuerland erstreckt sich das vornehmlich aus Steppen bestehende Patagonien, wo man im südlichen Teil aber auch noch die größten Gletscher der südlichen Halbkugel außerhalb der Antarktis findet. Nördlich von Patagonien bis hin zum zentralen Hochland erstrecken sich die Pampas, das fruchtbare landwirtschaftliche Herz Argentiniens, wo auf weiten Weideflächen die Rinder grasen und Weizen angebaut wird.

Tango und Fußball sind die zwei Themen, die die Argentinier über alle Schichten hinweg verbinden und denen sie sich mit höchster Leidenschaft widmen. Oft wird den Argentiniern, vor allem den Einwohnern von Buenos Aires, den so genannten porteños, eine gewisse Arroganz nachgesagt. Doch jeder, der Argentinien bereist und Land und Leute kennenlernt, wird feststellen, dass diese Vorurteile in den seltensten Fällen zutreffen und man vielmehr auf besonders freundliche und gesellige Menschen treffen wird.

Essen und Trinken

Essen spielt in Argentinien eine wichtige Rolle, ein großer Teil des gesellschaftlichen Lebens findet an einem Tisch statt. Nicht fehlen darf da das Rindfleisch, welches allerdings nicht in allen Teilen des Landes oben auf der Speisekarte steht. Einen hohen sozialen Stellenwert hat der „asado“, ein großes Festessen, bei dem viele verschiedene Fleischsorten gegrillt und mit Salaten serviert werden. Traditionell wird diese festliche Mahlzeit am Wochenende gemeinsam mit der Familie oder Freunden zubereitet. Außerdem sind der „Locro“, ein Maiseintopf aus zahlreichen Zutaten, und die „Empanadas“, gefüllte Teigtaschen, kulinarisch erwähnenswert. Ein sehr beliebtes Getränk in Argentinien ist der Mate, ein teeähnliches Aufgussgetränk, das auch kalt und mit Saft als „Tereré“ serviert wird.
