Dear International Partner,

At Open Door International, we strive to promote peaceful co-existence of people around the world through personal exchange between them. We feel that understanding between nations is positively furthered through intercultural youth exchange. Our goal is to overcome prejudices, boundaries and conflicts, as well as to increase tolerance amongst the citizens of the planet. Regardless of social, cultural or religious background, the students in our programs are presented with the opportunity to make friends and to engage the world.

In 1983, OPEN DOOR Student Exchange was founded as an independent partner of an American parent organization. Five years later, we were accredited in Germany as non-profit institution. The name “Open Door” represents the gateway that grants admission to another culture and way of life.
We facilitate the exchange process by acting as a mediator, supporting the students in their quest for knowledge. We manage this responsibility by fostering a seamless network amongst our team members in Germany and numerous partners abroad. This established network provides exchange students, families, host families and schools with professional support to facilitate integration and to ensure successful exchange programs.

Our objective is to ensure the immersion of youths into the culture of their host country so that they may become ambassadors to the world. Not only should they hone their language skills, but also develop an intercultural understanding, enabling them to easily assimilate with the culture of the host country. Thereby, through our exchange programs we aim to broaden the minds of all involved.
