Hey Guys,

after a long long flight I was finally at the airport in Indianapolis, I was so excited and nervous to meet finally my host family.

They picked me up from the airport. It was so fast – four people jumped in my arms; my host sister from Japan, my two host brothers and my host mother. They couldn’t pronounce my name, it took weeks to learn my name, they called me Lute, Lutta, Lutafire, or somebody calls me Lutallen. It was a little bit difficult to communicate the hole time in english but after days it was easier for me. I was the first days at home and went to school two days after.

So I am staying now at a welcome family – the causes are that my school is too far, my coordinator takes me every morning to school and takes me home after school. I have to change my host family, but I don’t think that I can find a better host family than this one. They are so nice, I love them so much, I miss them everyday when I stay at school a while longer.

My Birthday

After a few days it was my birthday, it was so beautiful. Indeed I am so far from my family in Germany but I feel so save. First of all I went to school and after school we ate dinner with my family – it was so amazing. After a perfect dinner I went to my neighbor with my friends and my host sister where we celebrated. But it wasn’t a normal birthday celebration, it was very different: first they sang a song and wanted me to bite the cake. They told me it’s a tradition. So I wanted so bite the cake while I wanted to do this they pushed another cake in my face. I was so surprised – I began to laugh, everybody filmed it with their phone. Two families were there, I got presents, we danced and the day ended so well, so I had a perfect time at my birthday.

Washington

After a few days we went with our partner organization to Washington DC for four days. I met a lot of new people from Spain, Brazil, Scotland, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Turkey, China, Vietnam, Japan and other countries. We made a trip through Washington and had a lot of classes, for example how we deal with social media, with our money and other things. I had a very good time and now I have a lot of new contact to people from another countries.

I thank ODI and FLAG for this. For finding me a perfect family and I love my city – Indianapolis is so nice. The school is very nice too, I am going to the Greenfield Central High School, I have a lot of friends and I love my subjects.
